Are you a teen bookworm? If you are, let me just congratulate you. There are SO FEW of us left!! It amazes me how many teens, and even adults, despise reading, and I think part of that may be due to the fact that there are millions of books out there (that look verrryyy long to our teen eyes) and it’s hard to find an author that you just love! It is so much easier to find an author to continually return to instead of constantly browsing and experimenting with random books (though there is certainly a place to do that, i.e the library!) and sometimes being delightfully surprised, but often disappointed as well. But most people don’t have the time or desire to experiment with different authors and genres, so here I have laid out these top 10 timeless authors whose books can get any teen into reading!

In no particular order, here they are!

1.  J. K. Rowling

Most famous for her best-selling series, Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling is a very successful author who is well-loved by both teens and pre-teens. Besides the Harry Potter series, she has also written other singles and series, such as the Cormoron Strike (books one and two).

2. Gayle Forman

Beginning her writing career as a journalist for Seventeen magazine, Gayle Forman went on to write several successful novels such as (most famously) If I Stay and Where She Went. Her writing is geared anywhere from young adult to adult, moving hearts of any age.

3. Rick Riorden

Rick Riorden is a popular teen author who incorporates Greek, Egyptian, and Norse mythology into his writing. His career launched with the publishing of books in the Percy Jackson series, and he later went on to create other series such as the Kane Chronicles. Teens love his energetic and memorable style of writing.

4. Scott O’Dell

Award-winning author who focuses on historical fiction, Scott O’Dell has created a legacy of adventure, and all teens will love the books under his name. Though he has written many others, he is most famous for his first book, Island of the Blue Dolphins.

5. Veronica Roth

The Divergent series is another extremely popular series of today’s teen culture, and it is written by none other than Veronica Roth, an author who has a passion for action and isn’t afraid to tackle hard topics in her writing. Her writing has a dystopian theme and is geared towards teens and pre-teens.

6. Sarah Dessen

As the #1 New York Times best-selling author of over a dozen books, such as The Truth About Forever, Sarah Desson has established her reputation among the teens of America. Her heartfelt novels and realistic fiction themes allow her to connect with her readers easily.

7. C. S. Lewis

C.S Lewis is a classic English writer who is best known for his Narnia series. Though this series has become several major films, the books are a wonderful option for teens looking for deeper-level reading, with all the action and suspense to go with it.

8. John Green

John Green is an established author, vlogger, producer, and actor whose books can be found on just about any teen’s bookshelf. Most famous for his recent novel, The Fault in Our Stars, he has also published dozens of other novels such as Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska.

9. Judy Blume

Mostly geared towards younger teens, Judy Blume’s novels are controversial but also very lovable. First established through her book Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, her career has grown to other series such as Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing, and even extend to adult novels.

10. Stephanie Meyer

Twilight is the name on every person’s lips when the name “Stephanie Meyer” is uttered, as the series has skyrocketed in popularity since its release in 2005. Since then, her popularity and awards have only grown with the publishing of her other novels, such as The Host.

So there you have it 🙂 Ten of the most popular and well-loved authors in today’s teen culture (including some of my own personal favorites)! I hope you get the chance to check out some of their writing, as all of them are worth looking into. And be sure to pin this post on your way out!

Happy reading!

  1. I love all of these authors, but especially JK Rowling and John Green. I wonder what kinds of books are out there for teen boys. I know the fantasy books appeal to all genders, but just a wondering.

  2. I have a teen who mentions authors I’ve never heard of all the time. She has left Rowling and Meyers behind and now there are new names on the market… Time flies!
